The biosynthesis pathways of lycopene, the gene regulation of key enzyme and the microorganism and plant genetic engineering of lycopene were reviewed, and development of genetic engineering for lycopene was predicted, and provides scientific research base for further research of applications of the genetic engineering technology in the production of lycopene.
