A myofibroblast(MF) is a kind of cell between a fibroblast and a smooth muscle cell in differentiation.It is convinced to play a critical role during the regeneration of wound healing and tissue fibrosis.This article elucidates the relationship between the plasminogen system and the apoptosis of MF in the pathway of signal transduction.The regulation of the plasminogen system affects MF apoptosis and differentiation,leading to alleviating or even to treating the diseases related.The latest investigations suggest that the small molecule inhibitor of PAI-1 and statins can affect the apoptosis of MF through the plasminogen system,which may become a new drug for the treatment of tissue fibrosis.
