英文摘要：
The development of multiple section semiconductor lasers is reviewed. These multiple section lasers are classified with respect to the number of the section, named two-section, three-section, and four-section lasers. Several typical structures of monolithic lasers are introduced. The design background, objects, ideas, characteristic performances, and main applications are summarized. The comparability in the structure of these multiple section lasers is discussed. The connecting link between three kinds of structure lasers and their research focus are analyzed. The perspective about multiple section semiconductor lasers is given.
