Industrial agglomeration plays an important role in the modern economic growth. On the basis of reviewing the classical theory of industrial agglomeration, the focus is placed on the latest progress in the theoretical research on new industrial parks/zones mainly in the aspects of local economy, technical innovation, production organization,social network, etc as well as the problems that exist in the industrial park/zone development. A conclusion is drawn from these reviews that the labor division and collaboration inside an industry is the main successful experience of new industrial parks/zones, and also is the chief characteristic of modern industrial agglomeration, which is a significant enlightenment to the development of industrial parks/zones in China, especially the government-driven industrial parks/zones.
