The present study was designed to investigate the potential difference of effects evoked by imported and domestic-made formalin. Nocifensive behaviors （lifting and licking） were evaluated by Dubuisson scoring using in-house software following subcutaneous injection of formalin into the hindpaw. The results showed that group received indigenous formalin displayed significantly less time of lifting/licking in the second phase of the formalin test than group with imported formalin. However, indigenous formalin that was made in different time evoked very similar behavioral response. It suggests that either imported or domestic-made formalin should be consistently, but not alternatively, used. If domestic-made formalin is used, it would be better used within 12 months after formalin solution was made.
