With rapid development of techniques in molecular biology, gene therapy provides an efficient approach for treatment of cardiovascular disease. But the transfection rate is low and the safety is always an issue, regardless of whether the therapeutic gene was injected to the target directly or with the help of naked plasmid and adenovirus. Ultrasound - targeted micro- bubble destruction (UTMD) technique has become a potential strategy for target - specific gene delivery by facilitating uptake of the released gene into tissue and cell. Research has suggested that it could improve the transfection rate and the treatment effect. Herein, we discussed the research progress in gene therapy mediated by ultrasound -targeted microbubble destruction in cardio- vascular disease in this article.
