Serial verb constructions is quite common not only in Chinese but also in other languages in the world. There have always been contradiction and dispute over serial verb constructions in modern Chinese in the academic circles. This paper makes comment on the nomination, reservation or abolition and classification of this grammatical structure in modern Chinese and tries to reveal a general picture of the research on the structure during the past 50 - odd years.
