This paper summarizes the researches on dynamic traffic assigmnent problems. The equivalent relation between the variational inequality model and the dynamic user-optimal condition is described. The necessity of the application of variational inequality method to dynamic traffic assignment is explained based on the description of the set of constraints and travel cost function. An overview of the current works in the dynamic traffic assigmnent using variational inequality method is presented. Existing problems and further researches of the variational inequality dynamic traffic assigmnent models are discussed.
