On the basis of deeply analyzing the social background and the environmental condition of future human settlement, the paper tries to introduce an ancient but advanced mode of human settlement, aquapolis. By the means of literature research and case study, it points out that water-based development becomes an alternative, smart strategy to ease the land-population contradiction, and to reduce the pressure on resources and the environment with the rapid development of waterfront cities and towns. It declares that this research of aqua-home provides not only a perspective and creative view on sustainable development of the human settlement, but also a constructive guidance for the agenda of Beautiful Country, Identical Urbanization and Ocean Development in Shanghai today.
