Based on the analyses of the titles from the works of the challenge cup winners,this paper discusses thebasic principles of the topic choice in the challenge cup competition. The topic selection way and the topic selectionstrategy were elucidated respectively,from the ten aspects of hot issue,social need,hands-on practice,blank region,opinion query,historical problem,academic debate,reverse think,repeated deliberation,failure cases and the fourperspectives of analogy,antithesis,transformation and transplant. Finally,the topic selection taboos were brieflydescribed.
