A facile approach has been developed for the synthesis of N-（alkyloxycarbonylmethyl） nucleobases, the building blocks for Peptide Nucleic Acids（PNA）. All the nucleobases are regioseleetively alkylated and the desired products are obtained in moderate to high yields under microwave irradiation for short time in ionie liquid as the solvent and in the presence of K2CO3 as the base.
