Britain is the birthplace of the modern version of ＂New Town＂ . This paper intends to re-locate Britain＇s new towns in their original socio-economie background, By re-serutinizing the historic-geographical specificities as well as reviewing the oontexts and debates in their evolutionary process, it is hoped that not only the problems and challenges once eonfronted by the British could he revealed, but also some of the lessons and experiences gathered at that time would he reflected upon from today＇s vantage point.
