This paper studies the relationship between external organizational capabilities and radical innovation on the bases of theories of dynamic capability and industrial organization. From the perspective of corporate political strate gy, we propose two kinds of dynamic capabilities, i. e. , the capabilities to influence government and the capabilities to influence industry. Further, we propose that the capabilities to influence government have a revised U shape relation with radical innovation; the capabilities to influence industry have a positive relation with radical innovation. The capabilities to influence government and the capabilities to influence industry have an interaction effect on radical innovation.
