A new ferrocene-anthracene dyad bearing Schiff base donor, 1, has been synthesized and char- acterized. Its metal ions recognition ability was investigated by UV-Vis spectra, emission spectra and cyclic voltammetry (CV). Among various metal ions, 1 shows multi-respond to Cr^3+, Cu^2+ and Hg^2+, with a ca. 100 nm red-shift of the low energy Fe(Ⅱ)→Cp charge transfer located at 407 nm, which can be observed color change from yellow to red by naked eyes, and an anode shift of the Fe(Ⅱ)/Fe(Ⅲ) potential. In addition, 1 shows exclusive emission-on sensing to Cr^3+.
