The cooperation among enterprises is closer, and become a reflection of the enterprise＇s core competitive power. During the procedure of product development, choosing the optimum strategy of parts＇ externalcooperation system, or taking the enterprise itself as excellent parts/components supplier is getting to a trend. Collaborative product development chains （CPDC） provides an effective platform and method to this product development pattern. The definition and characteristics of the collaborative product development chains （CPDC） are given. The arehitecture of CPDC based on platform theory is presented according to the product development characteristics of the manufacturing enterprises.
