In most references of number theory, - 1 and 5 are selected as the generators of the reduced residue system modulo 2l . In this paper, we generalize this result, describe the characteristics of maximal order elements and the generators of reduced residue system modulo 2′ . In particular, we prove that - 1 and 3 are generators of reduced residue system modulo 21 , which is more concise then the commonly used - 1, 5.
