One of the main problems of hydrogen energy exploitation and utilization is the storage problem. All the existent technologies and materials for hydrogen storage can not meet the need of industry utility. As a new material for hydrogen storage, hydrogen clathrate hydrate is considered as an ideal material because of its own merits. The characteristics, discovery of hydrogen clathrate hydrate and the development, recent research, merits and demerits of the storage hydrogen technology are introduced. The critical technology of hydrogen storage using clathrate hydrate is how to make it easier to form the hydrogen clathrate hydrate, and the final purpose is to increase the content of hydrogen in clathrate hydrate. The pressure of forming hydrogen clathrate hydrate is not very high at low temperature, so the refrigeration and cryogenic technology could provide technical support for forming hydrogen clathrate hydrate.
