Ptolemy＇s Almagest was a full,systemic and quantitative statement on the cosmos in the history of humankind.It was a great book on the mathematical astronomy and put firstly forward the direction and the methods for the development of astronomy thereafter.It was of important influence to the subsequent astronomy of different nations.This paper introduces the composing content,structure and characteristic and the diffusion of Almagest in the world.The new advance of Almagest is examined.It possesses a great meaning to improving the know and the knowledge of the academe of history of science in China.
