Slug is a transcriptional factor of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) with zinc finger structures, which plays a crucial role in the process of EMT, migration, invasion, metastasis, and sustain of stem cell-like characteristics of cancer cells. A variety of signal transduction molecules and pathways are involved in the regulation of the expression of Slug. This review focuses on the signal molecules and signal transduction pathways which are involved in the regulation of the degradation and expression of Slug, various tumor-associated molecules induced by Slug, and the relationship between Slug and other EMT transcriptional factors.
