Virtual channel technology is one of important technologies to improve the performance of network communications, and the design of virtual channel controller is the key to implement virtual channel technology. This paper designs and implements a virtual channel controller based on FPGA using VHDL. It is suitable for mesh, semi-torus and torus topology network-on-chips. Its operating frequency can reach 689MHz and it only occupies 1% of the FPGA resources. It is a low-cost and high-performance design of the virtual channel controller.
