Accumulation features and seasonal dynamics of the contents of carbon (C), nitrogen (N) and phosphorus(P) in leaves of Phragmites australi and Typha orientalis and their planting soil in Yuehai wetland in Ningxia Hui autonomous region were studied by field investigation and indoor analysis. It was indicated that the contents of C, N and P in leaves of the 2 plants were higher than those in planting soil and they tended to decline in the deeper soil, showing a significant “surface accumulation” effect. In different seasons, the contents of C, N and P in both leaves and planting soil of Phragmites australis were higher than those of Typha orientalis. In the planting soil of the 2 plant species, the contents of C, N and P firstly increased and then decreased with the changing seasons, which peaked in autumn, and the ratio of C/N steadily increased while the N/P decreased. In plant leaves, the content of C increased with the changing seasons while P and N content increased firstly and then decreased. The seasonal changes of the ratios of C/N and C/P showed a “V” shape tendency while the ratios of N/P in spring and summer were significantly higher than those in autumn and winter(P〈0. 05). In leaves of 2 plant species, the accumulation of C was the largest in winter but the smallest in spring. For N and P, the accumulation amount were the largest in autumn but the smallest in spring. Correlation analysis showed that the accumulative contents of C, P and N in plant leaves strongly depended on the contents of C, P and N in the soil and also relied on soil moisture content. Different methods of curve fitting were applied in demonstrating the significant correlations in the content of C and ratios of C/ N, C/P and N/P between plant leaves and planting soil(P〈0.05). Based on the results about N/P ratio, it can be concluded that nitrogen is an important limiting factor in the productivity of these two wetland plants in Yuehai.
