A field study of thermal environment is carried out on narrow alleys of three residential buildings to analyze the principles of passive-cooling alley.The main technical strategies can be concluded as：narrow alley with sunshade and ventilation,the ground and wall as heat sink,and night ventilation.Its inspiration on architectural design is also discussed.
