In late Shang dynasty, at least two routes were discoveried for introducing Shang culture to Haidai area, one of which was waterway composed of the ancient Yellow River, Ji River and Si River, which facilitated the cultural flow of the Central China, Haidai and Jianghuai areas ; the other was land route, which used to send a punitive expedition against Renfang in the end of Shang dynasty. Probably, the Shang dynasty controlled the routes in order to obtain salt in the north of Shandong and transport important raw materials of bronze and tin along the lower reach of Yangtze River.
