Mineral material science has become a relatively independent and perfect part of materials science and engineering through many years' research and development. Because the fundamental questions such as definition,connotation and features of mineral material sciences are subordinate and independent to materials science and engineering,it is proposed that mineral material sciences is a subject studying the composition and structure of mineral materials,the preparation, synthesis, properties, useful efficacy, and mineral raw material as well as their relationship and regularity among those five elements. The five elements are an organic entity which have their inside relationship and inter reaction. It is the connotation of mineral material sciences that study the five elements and understand their relationship and regularity. The most important feature of mineral material sciences is that it possesses both material sciences property and mineral sciences property. Mineral raw material is the foundation for other four elements. Mineral raw material and its relationship between other four elements as well as the key position of minerals in other four elements have give expression to its material sciences property.
