Research progress of inorganic layered compounds photocatalysts for photocatalytic decomposition of water into hydrogen and oxygen was described in this paper. The mechanism of photodecomposition of water with layered photocatalysts was introduced, and the properties of photocatalytic decomposition of water with layered photocatalysts and the way of improving their activities were summerized. The future study prospect was previewed.
