Compressible miscible displacement in porous medium is modeled by a nonlinear system of two coupled partial differential equations. The modified symmetric finite volume element method is used for the pressure equation, and the concentration equation is approximated by a modified characteristic and symmetric finite volume element method. Optimal order convergence in H^1 is proved for full discrete schemes.
