The steroidogenic acute regulatory protein（StAR） plays an important role in transforming cholesterol into steroid hormones.The latest study shows that StAR also expresses in the endothelial cells,influences cholesterol metabolism,and StAR is regulated by lipids including free cholesterol（CHO）,low-density lipoprotein（LDL）,and 25-hydroxycholesterol（25-OH）.Therefore,it is supposed that StAR plays an important role in cholesterol metabolism homeostasis,prevention and therapy of atherosclerosis.
