A simple, efficient procedure for the one-pot Biginelli condensation reaction of aromatic aldehydes,β-keto esters and urea or thiourea employing lanthanum nitrate as catalyst is reported. Compared to the classical Biginelli reaction conditions, the present method has the advantages of good yields, short reaction times and experimental simplicity. The structures of synthesized titled compounds are confirmed by elemental analysis, IR,13 C NMR and 1 H NMR spectroscopy.
