A mononuclear Mn( Ⅲ ) Schiff base complex [Mn(salpn) (CH3OH) (4,4'-bipy)] (BPh4) has been synthesized. Single crystal X-ray analysis reveals that the complex belongs to monoclinic crystal system, P2(1)/c space group, unit cell dimensions a=1. 3717(3), b= 2. 629 7(5), c=1.358 1(3) nm, α=90°, β=110.256(4)°, γ=90°. The central Mn(Ⅲ) ion adopts a distorted octahedral geometry. 4,4'-bipyridine and methanol act as axial terminal ligand coordinated with Mn( Ⅲ ) ion. The mononuclear units are linked by hydrogen bonds into one dimensional chains.
