The application of rare earth complexes in organic light emitting diode (OLED) is very significative for realizing full color display. Compared to traditional OLED, organic electroluminescent device doped rare earth complexes into its emitting layer has higher color purity and inner quantum efficiency; In this paper, the classification of rare earth complexes,the development and advantages of such devices mentioned above are summarized in detail, and the luminescence principles are also studied furtherly.
