Regarding whether the effect of emotion congruency can be observed in both explicit and implicit memory, the result of studies was inconsistent. Based on the dual process signal detection model (Yonelinas, Regehr, & Jacoby, 1995 ) , the current study was to further examine the effect of emotion congruency of explicit and implicit memory in individuals with non clinical and in duced depression. The 120 words were selected from Modern Chinese Emotional Lexicon, including 40 happy words, 40 neutral words and 40 de pressed words. The 120 words were divided into two sets (A & B) , and each set included 20 happy, 20 neutral and 20 depressed words. The Self Rating Depression Scale was administered to 350 undergraduate students, and 96 of them were eligible to participate in the study according to the scores. Among those 96 eligible participants, 32 were non clinical depressed and 64 were non de pressed. Half of the 64 non depressed participants were included in the induced depressed group, in which they were induced by de pressed film segments. The other half were included in the control group, in which they were given neutral film segments. All partici pants were presented with one set of words (participants were randomly assigned to view either set A or B) and were asked to rate the pleasant feelings of words on a seven point scale. After that, there was a 3 minute delay period, and during that time, participants were asked to count the During the testing period, participants were presented with appropriate set of words (30 fa miliar words plus 30 novel distracters), one at a time in a random order and keyed in their "old" and "new" responses using the la belled key. The dual process signal detection model was used to compute parameters of explicit and implicit memory based on the proportion of " old" responses. A series of 3 (group: non clinical depressed vs. induced depressed vs. non depressed) x 3 (word valence: happy vs. neutral vs. depressed) mixed factori
