How to improve the overall competitiveness in globalization and competition from surrounding areas has become an urgent issue to be addressed for Guangzhou. This paper, based on Guangzhou＇s reality, proposes an appraisal model of the urban synthesis competitiveness. After a careful comparison of the main coast cities with Guangzhou, it further makes the qualitative and quantitative appraisal, and the analysis of the Guangzhou＇s competitiveness. Importantly, the paper puts forward the strategy for enhancing the synthesis competitiveness in the next two decades. It also provides a scientific basis for the urban modernization, international development strategy and index system in Guangzhou.
