FDI is known that it can promote the expansion of the host countries' economies of scale, and also it affects the energy efficiency of enterprises. This paper tried to reveal the relationship between FDI and the energy efficiency by using the sample data of 1988 high-tech enterprises in Jiangsu province. The result shows that, although FDI has positive effects on energy efficiency of enterprises, the promotions of FDI among different countries are significantly different, for example, FDI of the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions has less effect on promoting enterprises' energy efficiency than that of other areas, which may be relative with the different ownership advantages between multinational corporations from different areas and the different motives of their investment in mainland China. In addition, it is found that research and innovation, human capital and the share of state-owned capital also have remarkable effects on the energy efficiency, while industry cluster has no obvious effect on it. Accordingly, this paper puts forward some related policy recommendations.
