The immigration in Three Gorges area accelerates the process of urbanization but in the process of urbanization, the immigrants are short of necessary self - consciousness and initiative because of the special characteristics of the immigrants. ＂Urban peasants＂ , a new social phenomenon, appear in Three Gorges area because industrialization development lags behind, because there are fewer non -agricultural positions and because the society does not pay much attention to it. The phenomenon of ＂urban peasants＂ needs us to think and to solve.
