Pragmatism,an educational thought,began to develop in the late nineeenth century in the United States.Its important developer Dewey proposed ideas regarding empiricism and essence if education,which have exerted a worldwide influence on education.Active application of Dewey's pragmatic principle to new curriculum reform is of practical significance: It helps cultivate students' creative thinking ability and attach importance to such aspects as practice,humanities in education and pragmatism in curriculum development.
