From the perspective of the evolution form of social contradictions, we can distinguish and analyze the connotations and relationship among four concepts, namely, the contradictions among the people, social contradictions, social conflicts and group incidents . Today, as even more difficult problems for the local governments, the major social conflicts enjoy the following outstanding characteristics that are different from the general social contradictions and social conflicts： the sources of contradictions further complicated with diversified players involved; the spillover effect normalized and the non-institutionalized solution mechanism taken form; the level of confrontation intensified and rigid demand bringing about violent actions; strategies formalized for the contradictions with favorable means taken for the confrontations; the derivation effect strengthened with large numbers of derivative conflicts; and the presumed cause of the contradictions simplified, where local government and officials questioned habitually.
