This research focuses on two reports in New York Times about using the CRISPR/Cas9 technique on editing human embryos. From the perspective of Critical Discourse Analysis and within the framework of Wodak's DiscourseHistorical Approach,it explores how discursive strategies are used to construct in-groups and out-groups in the reports and the hidden reasons. Through mutual testing of intertextuality,it is found that China,Chinese scientists and Huang's research are negatively represented as out-groups while British researchers and Niakan's experiment are constructed as in-groups. The negative representation of China,Chinese scientists and their research and the positive representation of British researchers and their experiment in New York Times are driven by its specific ideology, political stance and values, which is consistent with its political intention of distorting China and aligning Britain.
