With vocabulary as the research object, this paper di- vides Chinese-Japanese vocabulary exchange history into an- cient, modem and contemporary periods, and respectively elabo- rates the background, characteristics, significance and role of vo- cabulary exchange in different periods. Chinese-Japanese vo- cabulary exchanges follow the way of bidirectional exchanges, mutual influence and integration, but different periods have dif- ferent mainstreams. The long-term vocabulary exchanges be- tween the two countries have promoted the development and so- cial progress of the East Asian cultural circle.
