Considering that IEEE802.11 wireless sensor networks can not provide any priority scheme, this paper proposes a new scheme based on the 802.11 MAC protocol. The main idea is that, by introducing new types of control frames, receiving nodes may refuse to accept data of low-priority nodes. As a result, the QoS of high-priority data flow is effectively improved. Our mathematical analyses demonstrate that the new mechanism can make the high-priority data flow obtain more bandwidth, and frame dropping probability. Through performance analysis and simulation, the result shows that the energy efficient of high-priority data flow is lower than one of low-priority data flow, especially the energy efficient of the improved MAC protocol is obvious along with the increasing sensor density gradually.
