An organic-inorganic hybrid gel of chitosan/SiO2 prepared by coupling chitosan with the tetramethoxy-silicane was used for decoloration. The effect of absorption time, the pH value of methyl orange solution, the initial concentration of methyl orange solution, the amount of adsorbent and the temperature on absorption were also investigated. The experimental results indicate that chitosan/SiO2 gel has an excellent adsorbability and regeneration capacity. This adsorbent may thus be a useful for removing dye from industrial waste-water.
