Objective： From the perspective of HIS construction mode, development path, technical architecture and medical reform policy demand, the cloud HIS is studied and explored, and HIS future is redefined. Methods： Through the analysis of advantages and disadvantages of traditional HIS, the necessity of redefining HIS is given. HIS is redefined from the perspective of concept, technology, method and mechanism. Results： With the new connotation, construction methods and development mechanism, cloud HIS reconstructs the system of information architecture, management service flow, patient service environment and operation and maintenance service method. The medical and health informatization transforms from the local area network （LAN） hospital information system to the WAN healthcare information system, Conclusion： Cloud HIS is the development direction.
