The Iceman Cometh is the masterpiece of Eugene O＇Neill in his later life.In this play,O＇Neill successfully described a drunken and day-dreaming group of people who lived in Harry Hope＇s hotel with his excellent writing skills.However,behind these people,there are still some hidden females.Evelyn,one of them,only exists in the talk and jokes of the males.She is the victim without right to speak.Meanwhile,she is both a devil and an angel in the play.The double roles symbolize that in a patriarchal society,the females are despised and always in low status.
