Interactive fast cartoon making is based on the abundant cartoon material database. Thus it is necessary to study the annotation and retrieval of cartoon material so as to reuse the cartoon material. This paper studies and realizes a cartoon material annotation and retrieval system for interactive fast cartoon making. First, it builds a database with abundant cartoon material. Then, it studies the semantic annotation methods of cartoon scene and feature material. Finally, it proposes various browsing and retrieval methods based on the feature of color, invariant local feature and shape, etc. The system is proved to be extensible, interactive and has the ability of fast retrieval. Some of its key techniques have already been applied successfully in cartoon making enterprises.
