A novel nonlinear optical azobenzene derivative chromophore was designed and prepared from p-Methoxyaniline, phenol, and propargyl bromide by diazotization-coupling reaction and etherification. The target compound was characterized by IR, NMR and UV-vis absorption spectra. The transition dipole moment of the chromophore was determined to be 5.12D.
