Objective To explore the gender differences in effects of emotion on time perception. Methods A total of 38 subjects participated in the temporal bisection task. Results The 800 ms duration of low arousal pictures perceived by men was longer than that perceived by women. The participants judged that high arousal stimuli lasted longer than low arousal and neutral stimuli, but both men and women neither overestimated nor underestimated low arousal pictures compared with the neutral ones. Conclusions The effects of emotion on time perception are not the same for different genders. The affective arousal influence time perception is via arousal mechanism.
