Based on the evaluation index system of port-cities, principal component analysis is used to extract the four principal factors reflecting functional characteristics of port-cities; Then hierarchical clustering method is used to classify 21 port-cities into eight categories according to their principal component scores; Functional models of port-cities are further summarized with indexes such as port function, city function, and the relationship between ports and cities, which features and problems are analyzed; Finally, based on the above differences of functional models, some suggestions are proposed on the development of port-cities in China.
