The article discusses the phenomenon of ＂ stronger paddy rice but weaker rice＂ and takes it as a special representation of price distortions in the rice market. Quite a few scholars have accounted for the phenomenon from their own perspectives. The article reviews the existing relevant research results, points out that the existing conclusions are too fragmented to give a complete framework to explain the causes for ＂ stronger paddy rice but weaker rice＂. It then attempts to probe into the causes under the vertical dual-pricing （VDP） framework from the perspectives of grain market price formation mechanism and then puts forward some corresponding suggestions. The framework can also be applied to the analysis of the similar phenomena in the related markets caused by non-equilibrium reformation.
