This paper summarizes the combustion theory and flame retardant mechanism of polymer, demonstrates the necessity and feasibility of asphalt flame retardation in highway tunnel, and puts forward the technical requirements for asphalt flame retardants. The paper also expatiates the status of research on asphalt flame retardant techniques at home and abroad, evaluates the current asphalt flame retardant techniques, and analyzes the prospect of application of retardant asphalt.
