Traumatic brain injury may induce changes in multiple cell types, such as neurons, gliocytes, astricytos, and other supporting cells. However, neuron death is a major cause of the degeneration of the central nervous system,as well as death. The mechanisms of neuronal cell death have been the predominant focus. Data demonstrate that receptor-interacting protein-1 plays a key role in mediating cell death processes, and is critically involved in mediating necroptosis,a Caspase-independent pathway of programmed cell death highlighted in recent years.
