Interferon regulatory factor 3 （IRF-3） is a member of the IRF family which plays a major role in gene expression of IFN regulatory factors, and is closely related to the level of IFN gene expression in condition of viral infection, especially in the pathogenesis of hepatitis B virus and hepatitis C vires. The research progress of IRF-3 in the pathogenesis of viral hepatitis are reviewed.
